Istanbul North Rail Crossing to Strengthen North Marmara’s Logistics Context

In the official project information of the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, INRAIL is presented as a strategic infrastructure project intended to connect Istanbul’s Asian and European sides through a high-capacity, heavy-freight-capable rail link.

01

INRAIL: approximately 127 km, double track and electrification

According to the official AYGM statement, the project covers construction of a new, greenfield, approximately 127-kilometre double-track railway. Full electrification and advanced signalling are among the planned components.

The main line begins around Çayırova Station, crosses the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and ends at Çatalca Station. High-standard rail links to Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport are also envisaged.

  • Approximately 127 kilometres of new rail corridor
  • New double-track structure independent from existing infrastructure
  • Full electrification and advanced signalling
  • High-capacity, heavy-freight-capable design

02

What does it mean for an Europe–Asia freight corridor?

The official project purpose focuses on addressing a critical gap in the national rail network, strengthening intercontinental rail connectivity and addressing congestion caused by growing passenger and freight demand.

The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge includes a previously allocated area for rail passage. Combined with the planned airport links, this creates an infrastructure context relevant to Türkiye’s regional logistics-hub ambition.

  • Intercontinental crossing via the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge
  • Planned rail links to Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports
  • High-capacity corridor perspective for freight flows

03

Why is it relevant for North Marmara?

Considered together, the North Marmara Motorway, Istanbul Airport and the planned rail corridor make multimodal scenarios more visible for industry, logistics, warehousing, e-commerce, technology and international-trade projects.

This context does not mean that a parcel has a direct rail link. In land sales, project development and business development, access, any spur need, permits, technical capacity and route relationship should be confirmed in writing for the specific project with the competent public bodies and service providers.

  • A regional transport context shared with the motorway and Istanbul Airport
  • Project-specific multimodal assessment for industrial and logistics uses
  • Technical and legal verification without assuming direct rail access

04

What should be checked before an investment decision?

A large transport-infrastructure development does not by itself determine an investment decision. Freight profile, operating schedule, road access, on-site circulation, permits and connection conditions must be assessed together.

KISBU Group carries out land sales, project development and business-development activity on its own real estate. It is not the governing body or official website of the North Marmara Special Industrial Zone; official project, management and permitting information must be confirmed with the competent public authorities.

  • Freight type, dispatch volume and operating rhythm
  • Combined review of road, air-cargo and potential rail scenarios
  • Confirmation of plot, utilities, permits and connection conditions
